Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricane Season is June 1st through November 30th

Click HERE to see some photos from our relief trip down to Hurricane Charley staging area for the Humane Society to provide horse, dog, cat feed, hay, and other animal supplies and donations. While our travel only took us directly to the staging areas and back (no sightseeing), there was plenty of destruction to see in that general area, making me even more thankful that we were spared.

[The club also donated $1,000 to the Suncoast Humane Society for Hurricane Charley relief efforts]

Being prepared for Hurricane season as an average Florida resident can be quite stressful.  Add to that the responsibilities of being the owners of large animals and you complicate that effort significantly (as most of us are aware). With our Tampa Bay Area having just escaped a direct hit from Hurricane Charley, we wanted to share some information specific for horse owners to help you ensure you are prepared in the event we have to go through this experience again.

Here are a few websites with good information:

Florida Horse.com

Sunshine State Horse Council (Hurricane/Fire Emergency Evacuation Information)

Florida Division of Emergency Management

General Hurricane Information (preparation guides, evacuation maps, etc) for the Tampa Bay area can be found on our local area news websites:

News Channel 8/TBO.com (NBC)

Bay News 9

Tampa Bay 10 News (CBS)

ABC Action News
